About Julie

Julie Norman, BS, E-RYT, BIG HappyBoatPoseSOL

Nicknamed “The Body Image Guru” by a group of her clients, Julie’s passion lies in helping women heal themselves and heal the world. Her personal eating disorder recovery empowered Julie to become an entrepreneur right out of college.  Upon receiving a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the University of Akron in 1998 she launched a private practice, Real Nutrition, LLC. In 2010 Body Karma Healing was born out of her frustration with conventional treatment approaches falling short of providing women the essential soul skills to realize deep and lasting body peace. In addition to out-patient nutrition counseling, Julie has consulted to:

  • The Summa Health System NIH research study on obesity

  • Baldwin-Wallace College Health Services

  • Jewish Family Services Association of Cleveland

  • The Health Initiative Project serving the Akron Public Library

  • Vita-Mix Corp and SummaCare

  • New Beginnings Eating Disorders Center

  • Cleveland Center for Eating Disorders (The Emily Program)

  • Wellness Works for You Corporate Wellness Programs

Early in her career Julie also held a clinical dietitian position at Laurelwood Hospital and Counseling Center serving the general psychiatry, dual diagnosis, chemical dependency, child/adol and eating disorder units.

Fitness spans her lifetime from being an accomplished equestrian athlete (2 state championships in show jumping) and weekend mountain biker, to developing and leading holistic exercise programs with seniors at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, OH. She believes exercise should be fun and promotes playful, intuitive movement rather than the western work out approach that is often unsustainable for many people.

After 6 years of personal practice she embarked on a deeper study into the full path of yoga completing her 200 hour training in 2009 and blending yoga into her professional work in eating disorders treatment. In 2012 Julie gave up her role as a registered dietitian to dedicate her life to sharing the path of yoga.
